How to build a Custom Agent

About this tutorial

The test Notion uses before you build a custom agent: is this tedious, repetitive, and low impact, and would the whole team benefit if you set it up once? If yes, build it.

You do not write a spec. You describe the outcome in chat. Example prompt: create a Q&A agent for the #cx-team Slack channel that answers from the help center and internal knowledge base. The agent fills in instructions, triggers, and suggested page access. You review them.

Be clear about the goal. Treat it like a capable teammate: give the outcome, then let it figure out the steps.

Permissions matter even when pages and tools are pre-filled.
